xAI launched The X Subscription on October 12th, a single plan that bundles the Grok chat app, the Grok Bot assistant, the Cursor coding tool and paid X Premium features, according to the company's own announcement and a report from Engadget.
According to xAI, the plan replaces separate Grok, Cursor and X Premium subscriptions with one package built around a shared usage pool between the Grok chatbot and Cursor, the AI coding tool xAI acquired in August, Engadget reported. Instead of two fixed quotas, one per product, unused allowance in either app carries over to the other.
Four paid tiers, plus a free one
Both xAI and Engadget confirm that the Premium, Super and Ultra tiers cost $30, $100 and $200 a month, respectively, matching what Cursor already charges per seat on its team plans. According to Engadget, the entry paid tier, Plus, costs $8 a month and already includes Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build, Cursor for coding, and X Premium perks such as the verification checkmark and fewer ads in the feed.
Per Engadget's breakdown, Premium adds Grok Bot, the latest Grok models, AI image and video generation and faster chat responses, plus code hosting, cloud agents and automations on Cursor, and an ad-free timeline on X. Super includes all of that with priority access to Grok models at peak times. Ultra adds the earliest access to all products and models, with 20 times the usage capacity of Plus.
xAI also says a free tier exists, with limited daily access to Grok Chat, Imagine, Voice and Build and a starter allowance for coding agents. The company says every paid tier delivers more usage per dollar than the plan it replaces, and that it is rolling the new plan out to everyone globally over the coming days.
According to xAI, the shared usage pool refreshes weekly, so one heavy day of use does not wipe out an entire month's allowance. If a subscriber runs out, xAI lets them keep going through paid top-ups billed at API list prices, or wait for the next weekly refresh, with remaining usage always visible in account settings.
What changes for current subscribers
Current SuperGrok, Cursor or X Premium subscribers can keep their existing plan or switch to The X Subscription and get a prorated refund for the unused time on their old plan, both sources confirm. xAI says it will give advance notice before automatically moving subscribers who do not switch on their own, but has not set a date for that.
Team plans cost the same per seat as individual plans, $30, $100 or $200, but with up to three times more coding usage than the previous Cursor Teams plans, according to xAI. The company says these plans also add single sign-on, admin controls, consolidated billing and SOC 2 compliance. Enterprise customers can now manage Grok and Cursor from a single dashboard, drawing from one shared usage pool across both products.
A rebrand lands alongside the bundle
According to Engadget, xAI has been adopting the name SpaceX Super Intelligence, or SpaceXSI, instead of xAI, a change announced by founder Elon Musk after the administration of US President Donald Trump began pushing the term "super intelligence" instead of "artificial intelligence." The X Subscription was announced from the company's official account already under the new name, Engadget reported.
The bundle folds three businesses that used to carry separate price tags, a chatbot, a coding tool and a paid social network tier, into one subscription ladder. For developers and companies already paying for both Grok and Cursor, a shared usage pool means fewer separate bills to track, though the actual savings will depend on how much each product gets used.
